I’m Your Man
Dr. Marty - Make Stuff Up, Part 4
I had tuned Dr. Marty out during most of the meeting. I took the time to work on a couple of my client projects.
He talked with Dee about his life coaching concepts. Dee was too busy asking questions to write anything down.
They thought I was paying attention because it looked like I was taking notes. They didn’t notice that I kept quiet. I got a lot done.
“So Dee and Tom,” Dr. Marty said, attempting to grab my attention. “I’d like to talk about more assignments.” He took his feet off his table and turned his chair to me.
This first was to watch the movie I’m Your Man. “This film is wonderful about Leonard Cohen. And he is brilliant.”
I said, “I know about Leonard Cohen.”
“He would have been a great life coach,” Dr. Marty said. “Instead he teaches about life through vignettes and through characters, so he gives us scenes without explanations and we get to find what we’re supposed to learn, and then it’s our own lesson, you know?”
An old friend told me that Leonard Cohen’s album, The Future, was brilliant. I never bought the album though because Buddy didn’t like it. He said, “More Canadian crap. It’s a slippery slope. Next you’ll like Rush and Loverboy.”
“It sounds like a great date movie,” Dee said to Dr. Marty.
“It is.”
“So Tom,” she asked, “do we have a date?”
“Yeah.”
