I didn’t want to bring this matter up because the meeting with Dr. Marty ended on such a sweet note, crying about Alice. When I think about it, I think Dr. Marty was actually flirting with Dee.

Dr. Marty had asked, “Tom, any progress? Did you talk with your character? How’s that going, you know?”

I said, “I never know,” in a way to suggest that he says “you know?” too much. “I don’t have anything to say. Anything that I want to say, yet. Let me come up with a name first. OK?” This conversation, like the topic itself, immediately caused my head to hurt.

When Dr. Marty couldn’t get me to talk more, he asked Dee. “What do you have to say about what Tom said? What would you share with us?”

“Tom has a pole up his butt. He can talk with clarity and certainty about this type of stuff once he get’s an idea going.” She encouraged him. “Marty, maybe you could tell him about some of the stories that you have heard from others? I bet those are interesting.”

Dr. Marty hee-heed at that question. “Sure. Some examples might be very useful, you know? That’s a great idea Dee.” He then started monologuing.
